Get to know about the Rosen Fisheries

Rosen Fisheries has been in the field of Aquaculture since last 40 years. The Managing Partner, of Rosen Fisheries C.D.Sebastian is a Post Graduate in Fisheries. We have a group of supporting scientists, technicians and management experts. We have our own Hatchery, nursery, grow out systems, feed production system, laboratory facility, training facility with library etc. Basically ours is a family concern in which all family members work together and this is the second generation

Rosen Fisheries is one of the major suppliers of Fish & Prawn seed and Feed to private farmers, various government agencies, research station & Universities etc. since last 40 years. We provide consultancy service for shrimp & Fish culture and Hatchery throughout India.

We are already Licensed Tilapia farmers. Ours is the first commercial scampi hatchery in India, started in 1987 with aid of Marine Products Export Development Authority of India. We are the first to produce organic scampi PL and participated in Indian organic aquaculture program initiated by MPEDA.

Some basic concepts in aquaculture

The three major factors influencing aquaculture success are Water quality, Environment and Nutrition.

In the husbandry of terrestrial animals like cow, poultry, piggery etc., we see the animals daily, and meet their requirement. The fecal matters and waste materials are removed and cleaned from their living site, regularly. In aquaculture, the aquatic animals drop their fecal matters and the metabolic waste in the same environment in which they live, and make it unfavorable for their growth. This is a limiting factor for production. For getting high production, the water has to be regularly purified. Unlike terrestrial animal, fish has a shorter intestine (2-3 times the length of the body) resulting in poor digestion which again result in 35-40 % of the feed is excreted as waste & undigested. Most of the waste materials from high protein feed come out as ammonia or nitrogen. This is a major reason for pollution. In aquaculture, control of fish growth and even fish disease is indirect, through control of environment. Purification of water and environment is the key to success in aquaculture.

In pond based aquaculture system, biomass is less and so purification of water takes place by natural biological activity of algae, bacteria etc. In flow through system like cage etc. the flowing water washes away the fecal matters and other wastes and clean the environment. In Bio flock aqua culture system, the fecal matters, metabolic waste and other waste materials are digested by micro organisms (bacteria, algae, fungi, diatoms, ciliates, protozoan etc.) and they convert it into microbial protein or single cell protein (bacterial floc). Nearly 2000 species of organisms are involved in this process. In Recirculation aquaculture the water is purified by passing through solid filter, biofilter, degasser, Ultraviolet eradicator, oxygenator etc. In Aquaponic the wastes are removed by filtration and by absorption by plants. All these systems has its own defects and merits. Each farmer should select the appropriate systems which are suitable to his production target, market demand, capital availability, management ability, availability of resources like, land, water, electricity, proven technology etc.
